[ happy new year! ]

IT'S HARD TO believe that 2010 is at its end! Despite a few ups and downs, it's been a pretty good year overall with many things to be thankful for. I don't typically make New Year's resolutions but I will make an effort to enjoy the little things, always be kind and appreciate the people around me. If I can do that, 2011 will be a very good year.

So whether you are painting the town red or watching the ball drop on TV, kick up your heels and ring in the New Year with a bang! Have a great weekend and I'll see you next year (aka Monday!)

[ happy weekend! ]

TODAY I'M so happy - my guy is flying back from Dublin for the holidays and so I'm off to pick him up from the airport. I've been counting down the days and feeling like I'm 3, asking "how much longer?" Not long now! Hope your weekend is just as happy!

[ sweet sweet monday ]

EVER JUMP out of bed so fast that you give yourself vertigo? That was me this morning. My guy left early for work but no sooner had he left, he returned with a package in hand! What a great way to start off the week!

My dear bloggy friend Janis at Pinecone Camp sent me this lovely package - I won her giveaway back in June and can you believe it took 2 attempts to get this to me? The first package disappeared into obliviion {or it was too darn cute that someone helped themselves to it?}. So you can imagine my excitement when this one actually fell into my hands!

Oh, the anticipation....

the cutest little package with a custom notecard attached with fancy striped tape...

a lovely handmade fabric pouch....

containing the most beautiful recipe cards I've ever seen...

recipes printed on the backs....

The photography is so mouth-watering gorgeous, it makes me want to run over and preheat my oven stat!

If you haven't discovered Janis' delicious blog, check it out here. Janis is an incredible photographer who shoots for numerous magazines and every week she bakes up some delectable treat, and most are even healthy! {no excuses not to try them!}

Thank you my sweet friend! I will treasure these recipe cards and think of you everytime I bake up one of these delicious treats. xo

SOMETIMES I really wish I had a staircase so I could do something fun like this...

Isn't it fun? I love how the colours pop against all the white. Hope you're having a lovely weekend!

[ the. cutest. thing. ever. ]

HAVE YOU EVER come across something so awesome that you just can't wait to blog about it?? Well, this weekend while we were out walking, we did...

If you're a knitter and are looking for a few supplies, then Winnie's Wool Wagon is here!

Whether it's wool you're looking for, a new pattern or some cute buttons to finish off your project, Winnie's got it in her adorable little truck. Just pop open the "canopy" and she's open for business!

Even the lights are adorned with little eyelashes!

Winnie's Wool Wagon officially wins my award for cutest thing ever. Can you imagine taking part in a craft fair with this little cutie? I want one.

[ woohoo! and a new style ]

WHAT A LOVELY morning to find out that my Leigh clutch made it on the front page of Etsy! It's only happened to me a couple of times and what a thrill when it does!

I don't really mention my shop often but since we're talking about Etsy today, I'd like to introduce my latest style of shoulder bag hot off the sewing machine: Christina! Designed to be a great everyday bag, I've paired up some fun upholstery fabrics and added pleats on the front and back that expand so you can hold more stuff. Watch for more Christinas coming soon to my Etsy shop and website!

Have a great Wednesday everyone!

I HAPPENED to be lurking on Etsy and I came across the happiest art by Melanie Mikecz of TWOEMS...

Aren't they great? I love her choice of colours and can imagine them in really any room of the house ~ great if you've got a spot just crying out for a bit of graphic pattern and personality. To see the other great pieces by TWOEMS, click here.

Speaking of happy, it's Happy Weekend time again! And mine has already kicked off with a happy coffee date with a fellow blogger who has just moved to Dubai. Gotta love how blogging brings people together! Have a great weekend everyone!

[ first class, baby! ]

FIRST, LET ME start off by saying I don't travel first class. I'm coach, all the way and have grown accustomed to
a) ending up next to someone who has either bad b.o., bathed in perfume or smoked a pack of cigarettes before boarding;
b) knowing I may or may not have access to an armrest for my flight;
c) a simple choice of chicken or beef;
d) a seat that doesn't really recline more than 10 degrees
e) waking up with a stiff neck from "sleeping" in some weird position

So when my guy was able to get us some upgrade vouchers with his frequent flyer miles for our red eye flight back to London then Dublin, I was doing backflips! Suddenly a dreaded long flight had become something to look forward to! Upgrading to Air Canada first class is like winning the lottery!

You get an Individual pod that includes a cosmetic pouch with earplugs and sleeping mask, a nice comfy thick blanket, a remote for the pop-out TV (because reaching forward a couple of inches to adjust volume is unacceptable!) and a seat that adjusts to so many positions, you don't know how to get it to return to its original state...

a glass of champagne, followed by a snack of mixed nuts & choice of wine...

a menu to choose your meal consisting of starter, main course, dessert (with actual china, cutlery and personal salt & pepper shakers)...

all to be enjoyed while reclining with your feet up, watching your choice of movies on your pop-out TV (I decided on Sex and the City 2)...

then time to lie down, snuggle up and catch some zzzzzzz

Gee, I can get used to this! I think it's created a monster! How can I possibly fly coach again??

[ those crazy canucks! ]

HAPPY MONDAY! So remember how I mentioned that I'd be enjoying a few Tim's coffees on the weekend since it was opening its first international location here in Dubai on Saturday?

Well, let me just say that nothing brings Canadians together like Tim's. Not only was it crazy busy, but word spread like wildfire. And as a new expat here, it was definitely the place to meet and connect with other Canadian expats!

Cheers of joy could be heard by everyone who walked in, some brought their own Tim mugs from home, some brought in their hockey equipment. Everyone was tweeting, taking their photos with their coffees and walking out with armfuls of donuts, double doubles, iced capps and bagels.

We shook hands, hugged, shared stories and gripped our coffees like they were liquid gold. Strangers all becoming new friends. We Canucks are a crazy bunch!

[ happy weekend! ]

SO WHAT'S on my agenda for the weekend? Well, I've received a lot of digital October issues of magazines this week and plan to spend some quality time with my sofa and iPad. A relaxing, quiet weekend.

And of course a few of these since Tim's is officially open here tomorrow... :)

Got any fun plans? Whatever you're up to, have a great weekend!

lisa

[ yes, it's TRUE! ]

YUP, Tim's will soon be open in Dubai! It's starting to feel more and more like home. Happy Days! :)

[ my unusual hunt for TOMS ]

IT'S NO secret - I love TOMS. They are by far the most comfortable shoes I own. And so you can imagine my disappointment when I found out that no one in Dubai carries TOMS and I can't even get them shipped here from their website!

But I wasn't going to give up.

Before we left on our cruise, I knew that we'd be stopping in a few places, so I searched online for TOMS retailers and came upon one in Barcelona.

Perfect! We'd be starting and ending our trip from Barcelona so I'd pick them up there! I jotted down the address and Google mapped it.

On our first day in Barcelona, we decided to search for the TOMS retailer who would hook me up...

Hmm.... maybe I got the address wrong...

This was turning into the most unusual search...

And there it was in this tiny alley, surrounded by no other shops of any kind... Little PACO.

It was the tiniest store I've ever seen and totally devoted to TOMS...

Despite its size, I was able to find a few pairs and my guy picked up some too. This should keep me going until the next time I'm near a TOMS retailer.

I love that for every pair you buy, they give a pair of shoes to a child in need. And that means 5 pairs of shoes are on their way.

Do you love TOMS as much as I do?

[ OMG! I'm freaking out! ]

SO I JUST found out that the little local shop (The Finds) that sells my handbags just sold one to Shania Twain!!!! She was enjoying a coffee with her boyfriend in the cafe at the back and bought one of my Shellee totes on her way out! Have I mentioned that we're both from the same hometown (Timmins)? I'm all smiley and giggley right now! I just can't believe it! And my man and I were just commenting the other day on how cool it is that someone in France is walking around with one of my iPhone cases! That's nothing! :)
