THANKS SO much for all of your sweet birthday wishes!

I thought I'd fill you in on where I ended up during my birthday kidnapping. I packed my overnight bag and we headed out on the road. Before I knew it, we were headed to Abu Dhabi...

And we ended up here...

The St. Regis is a brand new resort and spa on the gorgeous sandy shores of Saadiyat Island in Abu Dhabi. We arrived late in the afternoon but I managed to snap a few pics as we walked the grounds before the sun went down...

Because it was late in the day for tanning, yet too early for dinner, it felt like we had the whole place to ourselves as we walked around. The soft sand seemed to go on forever and there was also a golf course right along the shore at one end of the resort.

Walking through the hotel, there were interesting, luxurious touches everywhere...

But my favourite part about staying in a beautiful hotel is seeing the room and how it's been decorated...

The best thing by far was the bathroom that ran the entire length of the room with a gorgeous deep tub, 2 vanity areas, a huge shower and an enclosed WC...

and of course all the little luxuries...

A delicious, candlelight dinner out on the restaurant terrace with live jazz and a relaxing day soaking in the rays the following day, it felt like we had escaped on an incredible holiday away.

Definitely the best birthday ever.

FIRST, thanks so much for all of your birthday wishes! You sure know how to make me smile! xo

My birthday turned out to be a great day ~ my guy spoiled me by taking me out for a lovely posh dinner at table 9...

Since 2011, table 9 has bagged numerous awards. Chefs Nick and Scott create a fun, fine dining atmosphere where you can create your own dining experience...

We chose to indulge in their multi-course tasting menu so we could try a little taste of many of their signature dishes {I took these pics discretely with my iPhone so I appologize for their quality}...

...and a fun way to end the night ~ a candy bar of homemade delights...

It was such a fun night ~ a lovely change from the typical steakhouse restaurant I usually go for. I loved the presentation of each little course. And since they change their menu regularly, next time will be an entirely different experience ~ yes, there will be a next time!

[ my weekend ]

WHILE much of North America is still digging out from under snow, we've had a dirty sandstorm weekend ~ beige skies, sand blowing, a bit of drizzle just to make the sand run slightly down the windows and then dry that way ~ yuck. This is my 3rd birthday in a row with a sandstorm. Gotta love waking up and checking the forecast on my iPhone and seeing this...

So needless to say, we didn't partake in the breakfast on a patio idea that I had originally planned.

Instead, we chose a bit of Texas BBQ...

And we went to see this...

I hadn't heard of it ~ apparently it was at Cannes. Hmm... what can I say except it wasn't really my taste. I mean, how bad could it be with Ryan Gosling in it?? I guess I just didn't appreciate the artistry of it.

But the best part was being surprised with these...

I can never have too many pairs of TOMS, especially here in Dubai. And this taupe colour is perfect to hide any dirt, even in a sandstorm!

HAPPY weekend everyone!

As for me, I'm celebrating my birthday ~ yup, another year closer to old age! Luckily I still feel like a spring chicken and my guy tells me that I don't look any different than when we met at 16 ~ gotta love him!

OK, I don't typically make a big deal about my birthday, but today is my birthday! There's just something about waking up on your birthday - everything seems brighter, birds seem to chirp more, and you can't help but wake up smiling. No real plans for today since my guy is away on business until late tonight. So I guess I'll just treat myself to a lovely cupcake and enjoy the day. I'm sorting through my Dubai photos and will share some tomorrow.
